The Morals of Moral Thinking

Whatever you do, don't think for yourself:

If anyone should think to himself, "I will do well enough if I follow the dictates of my heart," Yahweh will not pardon him. His wrath shall burn against him. (Deut. 29:19-20)

Heh...there's all sorts of nice little gems in that book, eh?

I think the passage is a very good example of one that's been cherry-picked and cherry-picked often. At my high school, I remember the pastor (or whatever the hell an Anglican guy is) quoting that very passage and leaving out the 'Yahweh'll beat yo' ass' bit.

If only Christians could read...

This isn't one I've seen cherry-picked frequently but I admit I don't keep close track.

This 'obey without thinking for yourself' instruction is pretty close to the instruction to kill people who don't honor the sabbath.
