Torture: On the Ballot in 2008

Those encouraged by the nomination of John McCain, believing it implied the next president would put a stop to the Bush-Cheney junta's embrace of torture, have reason to be discouraged: today, Senator McCain voted against a bill that would have banned waterboarding across all agencies of the US government.

The bill passed anyway, but Bush is expected to veto it.

The choice between McCain and the Democrat (whether Obama or Clinton) will be a choice between continuing torture or stopping it.

That is discouraging.
