Away, Fey

It's a news lede that pretends to stand at an ironic distance from shallowness and yet succeeds in being actually shallow:

It's the question dominating the political scene: When will Tina Fey be back on "Saturday Night Live"?

"I don't know," Fey said.
Not that it matters, but I hope the answer will be no. I'll say it -- Tina Fey is very funny on 30 Rock, but her impressions of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live have not been funny.

Basically, Fey looks a lot like Sarah Palin and has successfully aped Palin's mannerisms, accent, and verbal projections: either way, it's a 40-something brunette in glasses reciting canned lines. Fey has the good sense to know it's an act.

Satire should expose and amplify folly, not just repeat it.
