2008 in Photography

If you haven't done so already, do yourself the favor of looking at the winners of National Geographic's 2008 International Photography Contest. I'd post one here but they'd probably take my thumbs, and besides, photos this nice shouldn't be seen hanging out in a blog like this.

The winner in the category of "place" is my favorite.

After marveling at the extraordinary blunder that is Mr. Basu’s photograph, I headed over to photoshopdisasters.blogspot and sure enough, the debacle was already being appreciated.

We can, of course, rest secure in the knowledge that, according to the director of photography of National Geographic, “we look at every photo to see if it's authentic, and if we find that yours is in any way deceptive, we'll disqualify it.”

Reuben, yes. It appears Nat'l Geographic has some splaining to do. Maybe they just create a new category, "sights that Photoshop helped conjure into existence"?
