More Rudeness

Just when you thought legalized death-by-stoning was so 2008, Iran has renewed the practice:

Officials say two men in Iran have been stoned to death for adultery and murder, while another escaped death by digging his way out of the hole where he was buried to face a similar fate, according to media reports ... In the practice, the men are buried up to their chests and people pelt them with stones until they die.
And rest assured this punishment is by no means restricted to men:
"The majority of those sentenced to death by stoning are women. Women are not treated equally with men under the law and by courts, and they are also particularly vulnerable to unfair trials because their higher illiteracy rate makes them more likely to sign confessions to crimes they did not commit," Amnesty [Amnesty International] said.
So restricting women's self-determination doesn't just amuse and gratify the men not so restricted, it also makes them easier marks for a backward legal process.

Would it be rude to point out that the belief system that sanctions this is barbaric and incompatible with civilized human society? Would it be rude to say that if Allah exists as he is depicted in the story-books, his blithe non-interference in such practices proves he is a monster worthy of every human being's deepest contempt? I hope so. So long as this sort of thing goes on, we need more rudeness.
