Being Rick Santorum

His thoughts constantly wracked with horrific visions of man-dog marriages, former senator Rick Santorum can be expected to make a verbal gaffe now and then:

Santorum said he believes Muslims’ religious views cannot be changed or altered, so Middle Easterners reject American, democratic ideals.

“A democracy could not exist because Mohammed already made the perfect law,” Santorum said. “The Quran is perfect just the way it is, that’s why it is only written in Islamic.” [emphasis mine]
In lieu of Islamic, I suspect Santorum meant to say foreigner, but I have every confidence he spoke the word with exactly the contemptuous snarl he intended.

Nor is his statement to be faulted for 100% falsity -- not quite. He is correct to observe that a certain segment of the Muslim world mistakes the Koran for a perfect book that renders all other teachings obsolete and superfluous; but perhaps out of Christian charity, he neglects to mention the segment of Christians who make the same mistake about their favorite holy books.

Again, the man endures pressures most of us live without. Mistakes will be made in the strident defense of dog-free marriage.

That story just keeps going and going, doesn't it? My friend linked me to that earlier today and I had to keep checking to make sure it wasn't secretly from The Onion.

Yep. The man has a gift for keeping the work of satirists ever more difficult to keep up.
