Note to Pinniped Completists

This mischievous-looking creature is an artist's rendering of how Puijila darwini might have looked. What's a Puijila darwini, you ask?

This prehistoric animal represents a "missing link"—a branch on an evolutionary tree—between an ancestor that walked on land and today's sea-going seals and their relatives.
For those hoping to catalog all the world's pinnipeds, the back catalog has a new entry. Its fossil shows that it had many features of modern seals but had the feet and legs of a predominantly terrestrial animal.

As all the most fascinating newly-discovered beasties these days, it has not only a wikipedia entry but its own web site.
