One of these things is not like the others

The Silver Jews, "Pretty Eyes" -- a simple-sounding song that builds in intensity:

I suppose you'd prefer a video of a vocalizing robot:

Arguably, The Matrix toyed around with Nietzsche, Kant, Descartes, Plato, and Baudrillard:

And here I thought I'd never live to find someone who really understood me.

"According to Continental philosophers, we're now in the post-modern condition..."

Right (as in "Riiiight"). I don't want to pick at a tiny corner of your post and miss the grander, more horrible vision that awaits humanity at the dawn of the fleshy robopaclypse, especially when you have in no way endorsed everything herein as being your own view (unless Silver Jews is a view). But secretly I do, and I will.

That there are these continentalists out there telling us thus and so is not something I really buy. Maybe there are some self-styled continentalists who do, but the category is not really helpful. A link to a post by Brian Leiter, that may be interesting or not, compelling or not, but his writing is better than mine.

But worse is that anyone is being told that they are in the post-modern condition. Outside of a few disciplines, I'm skeptical that this is really being taught, much less that its true. Of course, the man in the video may mean that this is simply what those nebulous continentalists are saying, if anyone were hiring. Fair enough. Again, I must outsource to another post of possible interest:

Reuben, I like how your comment includes a simulacrum of itself. But anyhoo, you might be amazed how little importance or salience I place on "Continental" as a categorization of philosophers.

When I encounter it, I generally take it to mean "philosophy that recognizably belongs to the broad tradition that started with the Greeks but is not Anglo-American;" or sometimes it seems more like that same thing but ending with " ... but is not British."

So I read it, take it roughly as above, and read on. As I said, I can't recall ever giving a genuine shit. Brian Leiter seems interesting. Thanks.
