Day 04 — A song that makes you sad

Every song on U2's The Joshua Tree makes me sad, but especially "Red Hill Mining Town," "Running to Stand Still," and "One Tree Hill." These songs make me sad for reasons I don't expect anyone to share or relate to, unless others have adopted it as the soundtrack to their recollections of my mother. And that would be weird.

A beautiful treatment of grief is Neko Case's "South Tacoma Way," a dirge that remembers not only the lost love one, but the physical spaces they shared that have been transformed by the loss.

This is part of the 30-Day Music Meme.
