Day 09 — A song that you can dance to

I can dance only slightly better than I can sing, so in keeping with the principle of not putting much effort into that which can only appall onlookers, I confess my preferred songs for dance are pretty predictable: stuff by Colder, Zero 7, Broadcast, and so on. It's nice if a dance song isn't insultingly stupid.

While I'm talking about dancing -- this might not happen again, so I'm seizing it -- I find a rule of thumb that helps distinguish true dance music from similar-sounding music (say, trip-hop or miscellaneous electronica) is to try to dance to it. Apparent dance music will thwart all but the most graceful and accomplished of dancers: many Stereolab, Portishead, and Massive Attack songs fall into this category.

This is part of the 30-Day Music Meme.
