Day 11 — A song from your favourite band

If I place the emphasis on band for this one, it argues (arguably) for selecting a band whose combined efforts surpass the efforts of its members' individual and side projects. This excludes bands such as Stereolab, Pavement, Sonic Youth, the Shins, Nirvana, and the Pixies, since those bands have spawned excellent bands and solo projects.

The Police famously have not. Sting's solo work is slightly more palatable than that of Kenny G, so I won't link to any of it here, and the other two Police, Andy Sumner and Stewart Copeland, seem to enter cryogenic stasis huts when they're not performing for the Police (as far as I know).

I will instead link to an illustration of the Police being greater than the sum of its parts, "King of Pain."

Similarly, David Byrne's post-Talking Heads work has ranged from dull to duller, but the Talking Heads were pretty brilliant together, as in "And She Was," "(Nothing but) Flowers," and "Cool Water."

This is part of the 30-Day Music Meme.
